Steve Bates
With over 25 years of experience in the Fintech industry, Steve knows a thing or two about accuracy. In fact, it has underpinned his vast array of leadership responsibilities in development, IT, and security, with his latest position being CISO at Aurum Solutions.
Studying Electrical Engineering at Loughborough University and Design, Manufacture and Management at Cambridge University, Steve possesses a uniquely innovative and technical mindset. Upon joining Accurate Software in the mid 1990s, it therefore wasn’t long before he took on the role of Development Manager to build the company’s first client-server product. It would go on to stand the test of time as Fiserv’s flagship reconciliation software solution.
Despite progressing to other roles at Accurate, such as Support Manager and Technical Services Manager, Steve continued to influence the development of reconciliation solutions, and lead reconciliation projects across the globe at firms ranging from British Airways and Tesco, to ING Bank in the Netherlands and Société Generale Group in Paris, giving him exposure to customer needs from a range of industries. When CheckFree/(Fiserv) came to acquire Accurate, Steve took on a new challenge of European IT Director to lead the IT side of CheckFree’s European acquisitions, integrate remote workers, and manage sites across multiple countries.
Fast-forward to 2021 and the prospect of helping mould a new reconciliation software saw Steve assume familiar development responsibilities once more with Aurum Solutions as Head of Development. In a short period of time, Aurum has followed a similar path to Steve’s previous ventures – growing at a rapid pace – and as such, Steve’s IT and Security responsibilities have once more been called upon to affirm Aurum’s assent.
Ultimately, Steve has a knack for both creative pioneer work to inspire new developments and a comprehensive understanding of technology, regulations, and best practices to keep operations secure. This proves invaluable for Aurum Solutions and for his local bell ringing band, which also require the utmost synchronisation amongst a tightknit team.
